JLT (Jardine Lloyd Thompson) is delighted to announce:
- The appointment of Nick Harris, current Deputy CEO & CEO Specialty, as the new CEO of JLT Australia & New Zealand, effective 1 January 2018.
- Leo Demer, current CEO, will remain an integral part of JLT as a Senior Adviser to Group CEO, Dominic Burke, as well as assuming the role of Executive Chairman of Public Sector.
Supporting the change in leadership, Dominic Burke, CEO, JLT Group, said:
“Leo Demer joined JLT Australia in 1985 and has played a pivotal role in building our Australian and New Zealand business into one of the most significant parts of the JLT Group. Today, JLT ranks among the leading brokers in Australia; with successes that include growing our Public Sector business to become the market leader. I would like to thank Leo for his enormous contribution as CEO of our operations in Australia and New Zealand. Nick Harris has played a key role in many of the developments that have fostered the success of the business during the past seven years, and I would like to wish him every success in his new position as CEO of one of JLT’s most important and successful businesses.”
Nick Harris, currently Deputy CEO & CEO Specialty, will become the CEO of JLT Australia & New Zealand from 1 January 2018. With over 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, both in insurance and broking, his expert background will prove invaluable to JLT and its clients.
“As part of our senior management succession plan, it is with great confidence I pass the baton over to Nick Harris, who has repeatedly proven himself to be an outstanding leader over the past seven years with JLT Australia & New Zealand,” said Demer.
Speaking about his new role, Nick Harris, said:
“I’m honored to be leading a strong and thriving enterprise with a laser, client-first focus. I look forward to working closely with our clients and the community to successfully meet their needs and expectations. Our aim continues to be on enhancing our core broker proposition through industry-leading innovative solutions which focus on superior client outcomes and bespoke offerings.”
Leo Demer retires from his position as CEO with an incredible legacy, including:
- Growing the profit of JLT Australia & New Zealand from approximately AUD $40m to over AUD $70m in very difficult trading conditions.
- Growing JLT’s leadership in Public Sector to become the undisputed market leader, servicing over 500 Councils Australia-wide.
- Acquiring Recovre in 2015, thereby introducing a fully integrated, national ‘people risk’ offering to the market.
- Establishing Australia’s leading Placement Team in 2012, boosting JLT’s corporate portfolio.
“Five years ago, JLT wasn’t recognised as a ‘real player’ in Australia’s corporate broking landscape. Today, I am proud to say that with dedication, unmatchable industry knowledge, and the best people in the industry; JLT has become one of the leading specialty brokers in Australia, representing 13 of the top 50 companies on the Australian Stock Exchange,” said Demer.
Demer, who has been with JLT for over 32 years, said he looks forward to continue to be a part of JLT’s success in his various roles within the Group, including Executive Chairman, Public Sector in Australia & New Zealand.
Stephen Penfold, the current Executive Chairman, Public Sector will retire on 5 January 2018, and is looking forward to travelling and spending more time with his family.
“Stephen indicated his intention to retire from the industry earlier this year, having served JLT for over 23 years. He has been instrumental in driving the continued growth of the Public Sector business and its reputation for service and innovation in supporting local government communities across Australia,” said Demer.
JLT Australia & New Zealand are confident that these strategic transitions will continue to support JLT’s growth, and enhance JLT’s position as Australia’s leading specialty risk adviser and insurance broker.
