2017 JLT Community Series officially launched at Ikon Park

Collingwood and Essendon open the 2017 JLT Community Series this Thursday night

Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT), one of the world’s leading specialty-focused providers of insurance, reinsurance and employee benefits related advice, brokerage and associated services, have officially launched the JLT Community Series with the AFL ahead of the first game on Thursday night between Collingwood and Essendon.

Leo Demer, CEO JLT Australia and New Zealand, joined Travis Auld, AFL General Manager Clubs and AFL Operations, and 18 children representing the 18 AFL Clubs at Ikon Park in Melbourne to kick off the 2017 AFL pre-season.

“Footy is back in town for 2017 and back where it belongs – in the heart of the community. Community footy is what it’s all about. It’s the good old days for elite footballers with experiences and memories that have followed them every step of the way to where they are today,” said Leo Demer.

The 2017 AFL pre-season will see communities take centre stage across the country as all 18 AFL clubs arrive in regional and suburban neighbourhoods over the next four weeks.

“As the AFL’s risk and insurance partner for more than a decade, we are excited to support the 2017 pre-season and connect the AFL with the lifeblood of the game – community football.”

“We wish every club the best of luck for the JLT Community Series and encourage families, friends and communities to rally together and show their support over the next month. We’ll be there, cheering you all on.”

Travis Auld spoke on bringing the game to the fans, and the next four weeks as a chance for the newly drafted young guns to step onto the field and win over their new club and coaches. “During the JLT Community Series, we will see many players don their club colours for the first time after being selected in last year’s NAB AFL Draft,” he said.

“It’s never more significant than at the start of the year to acknowledge that the community is the lifeblood of our game, from grassroots football to the elite level, from the Australia Post AFL Community Camps to the NAB AFL Women’s Competition to the JLT Community Series.”

“It’s an exciting time to be a footy fan, and it’s an exciting time knowing that both boys and girls have the same opportunity to play at the elite level in their future.”

All 18 clubs play three matches between February 16 and March 12 in the lead up to the 2017 Toyota AFL Premiership Season. Fans also enjoy access to six NAB AFL Women’s curtain-raisers throughout the JLT Community Series.

In December, JLT announced its official three year partnership with the AFL. The company has been an important contributor to the game at a grass roots level and is the driving force behind the National Risk and Protection Program for community football leagues across Australia. JLT’s services protect players, volunteers and clubs across the 18 AFL Clubs, State Associations and Leagues.
